‘Little Guy’ Robot
Created with Ella Sanfilippo and Violet Knotsman
Created for a class project for Robotics for Creative Practice at CMU.
Project Description
Design Statement: Our vision for this project is an animate worm pirate that creates joy, intrigue, and a surprisingly meaningful sense of connection. The interaction scenario involves a participant taking time out of their day to interact with our robot in order to open the box, a task that is accomplished through gestures from the robot that guide the participant towards different gems that are put in the box into a specific order. The box then opens revealing the "treasure" of friendship bracelets and a thanks from the robot for interacting with it.
The success of this project really came from the interdisciplinary collaboration on it. My primary roles in it were more fabrication oriented (specifically when it came to the box and the sensors needed to intuitively control it). We were all able to help each other as needed, and it was a huge learning experience in terms of experience design and the more robotics oriented skills that I don’t really get to touch in Drama.
Due to participant privacy we do not have a publicly shareable photo of the box in action with the robot.

The final working prototype of the ‘treasure box’ folks interacted with in tandem with the robot.
